Shopify’s dropshipping plugin Oberlo is shutting down

On June 15th, Shopify will shut down its #1 dropshipping extension, Oberlo. Sellers who want to use the app to fulfill their dropshipping business via AliExpress can no longer find it in the App Store. Shopify is transitioning to another dropshipping solution developed by DSers

With over 100,000 active installs, Oberlo is one of the most successful Shopify apps out there. Merchants were using the app to fulfill their dropshipping business via AliExpress. You can add products from the Chinese marketplace to your store within a few clicks and have the original seller fulfill the order.

In 2017, Shopify acquired it for around $15 million from a Lithuanian startup. And that’s why many users were surprised when they couldn’t find it on the App Store anymore. It was delisted on May 12th, 2022.  Here are some FAQs about Oberlo shutting down for good.

Why was Oberlo delisted and shutdown?

There was no 1 definite answer. There are most likely many reasons as businesses have life spans.  A blog post from Oberlo says:

“This product deprecation, which is a routine occurrence, is in pursuit of providing merchants with the best solutions to reach their customers wherever they are.”

It also says:

“Shopify’s top priority is doing what is in the best interest of merchants. his product deprecation, which is a routine occurrence, is in pursuit of providing merchants with the best solutions to reach their customers wherever they are.”

Shopify will be transitioning to DSers, another fulfullment app.

Will I be able to still access the app if its already downloaded?

Unfortunately, no. After June 15th, all Oberlo related apps and items will be removed.

Whats the best alternative?

There are plenty of alternate apps merchants can use to fulfill their orders. If you are processing orders in volume, you can request a quote here at no cost.
